Million Solar Roofs Community
Partnership
- As Ive stood in front of the Emerson
Community Center on many election days, the impact of the sun
and its potential for heating and lighting buildings has
been clear to me. I sponsored a resolution that the City
apply as one of the Million Solar Roofs Community
Partnerships. The Board adopted the Resolution, and Mayor
David Cohen responded by assigning City staff to apply
for $30,000 in funding from the U.S. Department of
Energy, and appointing a Partnership called Sunergy that now meets
regularly to provide city businesses and residents with
the opportunity to help reach the Citys goal of 500
solar devices on roofs by 2010. Sunergy has been active
in the process of designing the high school renovations.
Active solar energy has been included in the design as an
alternate to be funded from the Alternative Energy Trust
run by the Massachusetts Technology Park Corporation with
proceeds with the deregulation of energy. For more
information, visit the Sunergy website at www.sunergy.com and the Green Decade Coalition website.
