Brian Yates
Alderman-at-Large, Ward 5
City of Newton, MA
Open Space
- As a member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Community
Preservation, I strongly supported the successful use of CPA funds to acquire
a portion of the Kesseler Woods property as permanent open space. I also
supported the acquisition of the Forte Land adjacent to the Dolan Pond
Conservation Area.
- As Chair of the Zoning and Planning
Committee, I have strongly advocated for adequate
resources for the Conservation Commission to manage its
properties.
- I supported the use of DPW land near
Rumford Avenue for Open Space and Recreation. I support
the updating of the Citys Open Space Plan to
provide access to state funding.
- I have used the Special Permit process to
acquire preservation easements to prevent development of
key parcels.
- I support the Community Preservation Act
as a means of acquiring funds to purchase open space as
it becomes available. For more information please visit the
Newton Community Preservation
Web Page.
