Brian Yates
Alderman-at-Large, Ward 5
City of Newton, MA
Neighborhood Activist
- For most of my adult life, I have been a
neighborhood activist. I began as Public Works Chair of
the Newton Upper Falls Improvement Association, and
subsequently served as Chair of the Newton Upper Falls
Advisory Committee that oversay the renovation of the Newton Upper Falls Depot
and the construction of Pettee Square Plaza. I served as
Planning Committee Chair of the Newton Upper Community
Development Corporation and eventually served as
President. I recently returned to the NUFCDC Board.
- I was one of the original members of the
Newton Neighborhood Network when it was founded by
Alderman Polly Bryson and Susan Mirsky. I have been happy
to work with many neighborhood groups, both new and old, in planning
responses to their problems.
